Tungsten concentrate is produced in North China, northwest and southwest, especially from Guangxi in the west, through Hunan, Guangdong, Jiangxi and east to the Nanling Mountains of Fujian Province. Among them, southern Jiangxi is the most concentrated, hundreds of large and small mines, Daji Mountain, Xihua Mountain, Kumei Mountain, Pangu Mountain and so on are all world-famous tungsten mines. The raw materials of tungsten minerals in China are mainly scheelite, accounting for 60% of the total production capacity, which are different from those developed abroad for a long time. Although the proved reserves of scheelite in China are 3.76 million t, accounting for 71% of the total reserves of tungsten deposits in China, due to the complexity of ore material composition, fine grain size and separation and metallurgy technology of some large and super large tungsten polymetallic deposits, quartz vein wolframite is still the main mining at this stage, accounting for 90% of the total ore production in China.

Tungsten is a parent element, mainly in the form of tungstate in the pegmatite and the hydrothermal deposit; there are about 15 tungsten ores, mainly of which are wolframite and scheelite. (1) The wolframite (Fe, Mn) WO4, also known as the wolframite, contains about 76% of WO3, the brown black to the black, the semi-metallic luster and the specific gravity of 7.1 to 7.9; the crystal is usually in the form of a monoclinic crystal, and the crystal is usually thick and plate-like, and the crystal faces are often vertical. The wolframite is often associated with the quartz vein. (2) The white-tungsten ore CaWO4, also known as the calcium tungstate ore, contains about 80% of WO3, and is usually off-white, sometimes slightly light yellow, light purple, light brown, etc., and the specific gravity is 5.9-6.1; it is a tetragonal system, and the crystal form is usually double-cone, and the aggregate is mostly irregular or compact. Scheelite is often associated with gabbro, galena and sphalerite. The known tungsten-containing ore mainly has the types of quartz, black-and-tungsten ore, skarite, scheelite ore and placer.

Tungsten concentrate is the main raw material for producing tungsten compounds such as iron tungstate, sodium tungstate and ammonium paratungstate (APT), ammonium metatungstate (AMT). Its downstream products are tungsten trioxide, blue tungsten oxide, tungsten powder, tungsten carbide, cemented carbide, tungsten steel, tungsten strip, tungsten wire and so on.
