Rocket engines, also known as rocket boosters, are mainly made of lightweight superalloys such as molybdenum alloy, which can not only effectively reduce the weight of aviation equipment, but also extend the service time of boosters.

Rocket booster is a jet engine that uses the principle of impulse, comes with propellant and does not depend on the outside air. The propellant consists of oxidant and fuel, which can be burned in a combustion chamber at high pressure (10-200bar) to produce gas. Because the working temperature is high, the high temperature resistance of its constituent materials should be good, and the thermal expansion coefficient should be low, otherwise it is easy to appear volume deformation and even melting.

Compared with other alloy materials, molybdenum alloy is more suitable to be used in jet engine. Although it does not have the high temperature resistance of tungsten alloy, its specific gravity is less than that of tungsten alloy, and its high temperature resistance is far better than that of existing nickel-based and cobalt-based alloys.

According to the number of added elements, molybdenum - based alloys can be divided into binary and multivariate alloys. Binary alloy refers to the molybdenum alloy in which a single alloying element is added. It can be divided into two categories: one is an alloy with tungsten and rhenium as alloying elements, which has the characteristics of high hardness and high heat resistance; A kind of alloy with titanium and hafnium as alloying elements, adding less, slightly higher alloy performance than pure molybdenum.

Multi - component alloy is based on binary molybdenum alloy, in order to further improve the properties of the alloy by adding a second or a variety of alloy components formed with certain excellent properties of the alloy. There are mainly the following series: Mo-Ti-Zr-C series, Mo-Hf-Zr-0 series, Mo-W-Hf-C series. Due to different doping elements, their physical and chemical properties and effects are also different, such as Mo-W-HF-C series of alloys with high strength, high hardness, good high temperature resistance and other characteristics. In the rocket engine, it is commonly used as multi - molybdenum alloy high - temperature resistant material.
