The harm of thorium tungsten electrode to human body, do you know?

Due to different levels of radioactive contamination in production and use, thorium and tungsten electrodes have to be withdrawn from the stage of history sooner or later. However, what is the replacement of this most used electrode product after its withdrawal from the market? The second most widely used electrode is the cerium tungsten electrode, which is not contaminated by radioactivity. It belongs to green environmental protection products. It can start arc easily with very small current, and the arc current is small. Cerium tungsten electrode is very popular in low current DC condition. But there is one thing, it is not as good as thorium tungsten burning resistance, wear out faster, wear fast investment, high cost, this is a lot of TIG welding manufacturers do not want to see. Therefore, it can be seen that the most suitable replacement for thorium tungsten electrode is the lanthanum tungsten electrode. At least in the current technical conditions, this is the most suitable. It has the closest performance to thorium tungsten electrode. Even in medium and small current, the arc performance and burn resistance are better than thorium tungsten electrode. And lanthanum tungsten electrode does not have radioactivity, durable current is high and burn rate is minimum. Thorium electrode contains 1-1.2% thorium oxide. Thorium is a kind of radioactive material, which is affected by radiation during welding and in contact with thorium tungsten rod. Radiation acts on human body in two forms: one is external irradiation and the other is internal irradiation through breathing and digestive system. A large number of investigations and measurements on Argon mask welding and plasma arc welding show that their radioactive hazard is relatively small, because thorium tungsten rod is consumed only 100-200 mg per day, and the radiation dose is very small, which has little effect on human body. However, there are two situations to be noted: first, when welding in containers, ventilation is not smooth, and radioactive particles in smoke and dust may exceed hygienic standards; The other is that the concentration of radioactive aerosol and radioactive dust can reach or exceed the hygienic standard when grinding thorium and tungsten rod and where the thorium tungsten rod exists. The invasion of radioactive substances into the body can cause chronic radiation disease, which is mainly manifested in the weakening of general function, the obvious weakness and weakness, the obvious decrease in resistance to infectious diseases, and the loss of weight, and so on. Thorium tungsten electrode containing thorium oxide (Th02 or thorium oxide) is the most commonly used tungsten electrode and has become a standard for judging the quality of other tungsten electrodes. However, because of the low-level radioactive hazard of this tungsten electrode, many users have switched to other options. In general, 2% thorium tungsten electrode is a good tungsten electrode with the lowest escape power, and works well even under overload voltage. Thorium tungsten electrode is superior to pure tungsten electrode in many aspects. Thorium oxide provides a current carrying capacity of about 20% higher than pure tungsten, a longer service life and helps prevent contamination during welding.

Using thorium tungsten electrode, arc is easier, and arc is more stable than pure tungsten electrode or zirconium tungsten electrode. Thorium tungsten electrode 1% (EWTh 1) and thorium tungsten electrode 2% (EWTh 2) can be used in DCEN.. Thorium-tungsten electrodes are usually used as direct current anode or carbon steel, stainless steel, nickel alloy, titanium alloy and other positive electrode applications. They work well, even at overload currents.
