Tungsten steel, also known as cemented carbide, refers to sintered composites containing at least one metal carbide composition. Tungsten carbide, cobalt carbide, niobium carbide, titanium carbide and tantalum carbide are common components of tungsten steel. The grain size of the carbide component (or phase) is usually between 0.2-10 microns, and the carbide grains are bound together using a metal binder. The binder usually refers to metallic cobalt (Co), but for some special uses, nickel (Ni), iron (Fe), or other metals and alloys may also be used. The composition combination of a pending carbide and the bonding phase is called a "brand ".

Classification of tungsten steel according to ISO standards. this classification is based on the material species of the workpiece (e.g. P,M,K,N,S,H plate number). the adhesive phase composition mainly utilizes its strength and corrosion resistance. The matrix of tungsten steel consists of two parts: one is the hardened phase and the other is the bonded metal. Bonded metals are generally iron group metals, commonly used cobalt, nickel. Therefore, there are tungsten cobalt alloy, tungsten nickel alloy and tungsten titanium cobalt alloy. Tungsten-containing steels, such as high-speed steels and some hot-made die steels, have significantly improved hardness and heat resistance, but the toughness decreases sharply. The main application of tungsten resources is also cemented carbide, that is, tungsten steel. cemented carbide, known as the teeth of modern industry, tungsten steel products are widely used.
