The role of molybdenum foil in high pressure gas discharge lamp
The application of molybdenum foil as an electrode, support frame and sealing material in high-pressure gas discharge lamps (such as metal halide lamps and xenon lamps) mainly depends on its high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance and good electrical conductivity. Specifically, these properties of molybdenum foil make it an important part of high-efficiency, high-power gas discharge lamps.
Electrode: In high pressure gas discharge lamps, molybdenum foil is used as the electrode material, through its excellent conductivity, the current is introduced into the gas discharge area in the lamp tube. Molybdenum's high melting point (2623°C) allows it to work stably at extremely high temperatures without deformation or damage due to overheating, ensuring a smooth gas discharge process, promoting light bulb lighting and maintaining a stable light output. Molybdenum foil electrode can also resist the chemical corrosion of the gas composition in the lamp and extend the service life of the lamp.
Support frame: Molybdenum foil is also commonly used as a support frame for high-pressure gas discharge lamps to help secure the position of electrodes and other components. Due to the high strength and heat resistance of molybdenum, the molybdenum foil support frame can ensure stability in the high temperature and high pressure working environment of the lamp, and prevent the electrode and other key components from being offset or damaged by thermal expansion or vibration.
Sealing material: In some gas discharge lamps, moly foil can also be used as a sealing material to seal the connection between the two ends of the lamp and the electrode to prevent gas leakage. The corrosion resistance and high temperature resistance of mo foil enable it to maintain tightness under harsh conditions and ensure the stability of the gas inside the lamp, thereby improving the performance and safety of the lamp.
