Molybdenum has the best combination of thermal conductivity and specific heat, which makes it a natural choice to resist thermal shock and thermal fatigue. Its melting point of 2620℃ is lower than tungsten, tantalum, but the density is much lower, so its specific strength (strength/density) is greater than tungsten, tantalum and other metals, in the weight requirements of the critical application, more effective. Molybdenum still has a high strength at 1200℃. Molybdenum foil has a wide range of application markets, especially in the field of UV lamps and other electronic devices.

Due to the poor plasticity of molybdenum at room temperature, the thinest thickness of cold-rolled molybdenum foil in the market is 50μm, but it still cannot meet the demand in some occasions. With the development of two-dimensional metal materials, how to prepare thinner molybdenum foils will have great scientific significance and engineering application value.

Molybdenum is easily oxidized to form molybdenum oxide in the range of 700℃-1000℃, and at the same time, molybdenum oxide is easy to peel off the molybdenum substrate in the plastic deformation process. By using molybdenum foil and tungsten foil to roll, very thin molybdenum foil is prepared.
