Background light source is an indispensable part in liquid crystal display system. The important characteristic requirements for this kind of light source are high brightness and long life. In large screen LCD projection system, high intensity gas discharge lamp is used as the light source.

Electrode structure of high intensity gas discharge lamp. It is composed of tungsten electrode, molybdenum strip and molybdenum rod. The molybdenum foil is in the form of overlapping double-layer structure at the connection with the tungsten electrode, so as to increase the contact area with the electrode welding and greatly reduce the temperature rise stress and mechanical stress at the contact. Using the electrode structure of high intensity gas discharge lamp can greatly reduce the bubble shell cracking phenomenon and prolong the service life of the lamp on the premise of ensuring high brightness.

The thickness of molybdenum foil is 0.025~0.035mm, and the overlap length is similar to that of electrode spot welding. In order to make the overlapping molybdenum foil and tungsten electrode have better contact and fit, the right triangle can be cut off on both sides of the electrowelding end of the molybdenum foil. The hook length of the cut right triangle is 1/2 of the width of molybdenum foil after the electrode diameter is removed, and the length of the strand is the spot welding length of the electrode. Due to the double-layer molybdenum foil structure, the axial tensile degree of the electrode caused by the increase and decrease of temperature can be buffered by the ductility of the double-layer molybdenum strip when the lamp is lit up and extinguished, thus reducing the mechanical stress at the contact point. After adopting the electrode structure, the explosion cracking phenomenon of the lamp can be greatly improved.
