Molybdenum foil is a thin sheet made of transition metal molybdenum material. It has the characteristics of high purity, low resistance, good electrochemical performance and chemical stability. So molybdenum foil is widely used in electronic materials and electronic equipment. Especially when molybdenum foil is used as a fluid collector in aluminum ion batteries, the fluid collector problem can be solved to a certain extent.

Aluminum ion battery is a rechargeable battery composed of a negative aluminum anode, a positive graphite cathode, a diaphragm and an electrolyte. It has similar functions as lithium ion battery. Due to its advantages of abundant and easy access to aluminum resources, the use of non-flammable and electrochemically stable electrolyte, and the high theoretical specific capacity of aluminum metal anode, it has been highly concerned by the majority of energy storage researchers.

However, the development of aluminum ion batteries also faces many problems, such as fluid collection, aluminum anode corrosion and high cost of electrolyte. Among them, molybdenum foil and tantalum strip with inert characteristics and stable performance in the corresponding voltage range of the electrolytic liquid system are the most effective fluid collectors at present. However, these metals are rare metals and relatively expensive.

Compared with cheap nickel foil and titanium foil, molybdenum strip has better electrochemical performance and chemical stability in the application of aluminum ion battery, so it can ensure the stable operation of the battery. The study shows that nickel foil in aluminum ion battery system will have chemical corrosion, and adverse side reactions will occur at low potential, the voltage range is narrow.

In addition to molybdenum foil, tantalum foil, nickel foil, and titanium foils, tungsten foils can also be used as fluid collectors for batteries. The results show that tungsten foil has stable electrochemical performance in the range of 0-2.5v voltage window.
