Super heat resistant alloy and nickel base alloy molybdenum can improve the corrosion resistance of stainless steel, and it can also enhance the corrosion resistance and mechanical properties of nickel base alloy. Many nickel base alloys with high molybdenum content and strong corrosion resistance are widely used in many fields. Molybdenum is a very effective matrix strengthening agent in ultra-high alloy, which makes jet engine become a reality. Molybdenum (up to 5%) strengthened the nickel matrix and expanded its working degree by separating the nickel base from the initial precipitation of γ. These alloys are widely used in rotating components, such as turbine blades and turbine disks of jet engines. High molybdenum alloys, such as X alloy (containing 9% molybdenum), are used in many fixed combustion components. Today, ultra-high alloys account for more than one-third of the weight of jet engines. Stellite 21, a cobalt based investment casting alloy containing 5% molybdenum, has good corrosion resistance to body fluids and is widely used to make prosthetics. Generally, no more than 5% molybdenum is added to α - β type titanium base alloy. These materials can be effectively geothermal treated to strength over 1000 MPa (145 Ksi) for use in air compressors for engines in the aviation industry and components requiring low weight, high strength and high corrosion resistance. Chemical application molybdenum based chemical products have a variety of chemical properties that can change between the oxidation states of 4, 5 and 6. Materials made from molybdate include oxidation catalysts, which are photosensitive and semiconductive. Through the study of the chemical properties of molybdenum, many properties of molybdenum provide opportunities for its development and new industrial applications. Molybdenum compounds are usually used as safe substitutes for toxic elements. Molybdenum based catalysts are widely used. When combined with cobalt and nickel, molybdenum is used in the petroleum industry because it removes sulfur from organic sulfur compounds that are usually present in crude oil. Due to the further expansion of world crude oil supply and the decrease of low sulfur crude oil, the application of molybdenum based catalysts will increase. In the presence of sulfur, molybdenum catalyst can convert hydrogen and carbon monoxide produced by high decomposition of waste into alcohols, otherwise it may cause poisoning of precious metal catalyst. Molybdenum also converts coal into a liquid state. Molybdenum not only can be used for economical fuel refining, but also contributes to providing a safer environment for us because of its low sulfur emission. As a component of selective oxidation catalyst, molybdenum can convert propylene, ammonia and air into acrylonitrile, acetonitrile and other chemicals, which are important for the plastic and textile industries. Molybdate is used because of its two properties: stable color and corrosion resistance. Molybdenum orange has light and thermal stability. Its color ranges from bright red orange to red yellow. It is used in pigments and inks, plastics, rubber products, and ceramics. Phosphomolybdic acid is used to precipitate the dyes methyl violet and Victoria blue. White pigments are used as corrosion inhibitors. Sodium molybdate has been substituted for chromate for several decades because of its inhibition effect on low carbon steel in a wide pH range. Molybdate has very low toxicity, and it is a kind of oxidant with weak corrosivity to organic additives usually added in corrosion inhibitors. In the construction of cooling water and heating system of air conditioning, protecting low carbon steel from corrosion is its main use. Molybdate solution can prevent steel parts from rusting during machining and is used in water-based hydraulic system. It can also be used as an additive in antifreeze of automobile engine.  Corrosion inhibitors, mainly zinc molybdate and molybdate of calcium and strontium, are used as industrial pigments. These pigments are white and can be used as primers or other color mixtures. In electronic engineering, the insulation layer of wires and cables may cause pyrotechnic hazards to firefighters and people in aircraft and hospitals. The combination of ammonium octamolybdate and polyvinyl chloride can inhibit the formation of soot. With the continuous increase of video recorder, telephone and computer network, these applications will continue to increase and develop. The lubricant molybdenum disulfide is the most common natural form of molybdenum, which is extracted and purified from ore and used as lubricant directly. Molybdenum disulfide is a very effective lubricant because of its layered structure. These layers can slide against each other, allowing free flow on steel and other metal surfaces, even under heavy pressure, such as bearing surfaces. Because molybdenum disulfide is formed by geothermal action, it has chemical stability under hot pressure. A small amount of sulfur reacts with iron to form a sulfide layer, which is compatible with molybdenum sulfide and keeps lubricating film. Molybdenum disulfide is inert to many chemicals and can complete its lubrication under vacuum, while graphite cannot. Compared with other solid lubricants, molybdenum disulfide has many unique properties, including: ● molybdenum disulfide is different from graphite, its friction coefficient is low (0.03-0.06), which is not caused by adsorption film or gas, and its lubricity is inherent in itself; ● it has strong affinity with gold; ● it has film forming structure; it has low friction coefficient (0.03-0.06) ● yield strength up to 3450 MPa (500 kgpsi); ● stable in most solvents; ● in air, It has excellent lubricity at 350 ℃ (inert or vacuum condition at 1200 ℃). The mixture of molybdenum compound and water-soluble sulfur compound solution has lubricity and corrosion inhibition in cutting fluid and metal forming materials. Oil soluble molybdenum sulfur compounds, such as Thiophosphates and thiocarbamates, can avoid engine wear, oxidation and corrosion. Several commercial manufacturers produce these lubricating additives.
